Yankees Deal Orioles 5-4 Defeat
|
The inspired effort of Baltimore catcher Robert Handy was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-4, to the New York Yankees. Handy went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. New York pitcher Steve Grier got the win, upping his record to 5-2. Bobby Marble got the loss. Joel Pacheco picked up the save for New York, his 17th of the year.
New York used the timely hitting of Jason Peck to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Yankees on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Baltimore manager Mike Neugebauer.
New York has 3 straight wins, Baltimore 3 straight losses.
