Starting pitcher Curt Howland pitched well enough to help the San Francisco Giants beat the Washington Nationals, 4-3. The Giants have an impressive 41-26 record.

San Francisco took advantage of an error in the top of the sixth inning. The game was tied, 1-1, when Lucan Esini hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put San Francisco in front, 3-1.

"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Howland said.
