San Diego Moves on to Division Series
|
Major League Baseball pundits who figured the Wildcard Series between the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants would go the distance were right on the mark.
The two teams battled back and forth in a spirited series, with San Diego coming out on top thanks to a 5-4 win in the deciding game at AT&T Park, to wrap things up 2-1.
"You get to the last game and anything can happen, so we're overjoyed to come out on top," said Padres third baseman Sébastien Piat, who was named series MVP.
For the series, Piat had 5 hits for a .357 average. He had 2 home runs, 2 RBI and scored 3 runs.
The San Diego Padres will play against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the next round. Arizona had a bye in the Wildcard Series. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
