Reds Stumble, Lose to Cubs
|
A good performance from second baseman Steve Bartman Jr. helped the Chicago Cubs defeat the Cincinnati Reds, 14-4. Bartman Jr. was 3 for 5 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Cubs. Unkei Wakamatsu got the win, improving to 11-2. He worked 8.1 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. Chicago goes to 45-39. The win puts them 2½ games up in their division.
Elijah Campbell took Dave Rivera deep in the bottom of the first. His 2-run home run put the Cubs on top, 2-0. In all, Campbell had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 6.
"The boys came out and just played their butts off," said Chicago manager Mergatroid Skittle.
