Giants Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Padres, 7-6
|
Despite a fine performance by left fielder Dietmar Warmisch, the San Diego Padres lost to the San Francisco Giants, 7-6. Warmisch was 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. San Francisco, now 50-36, holds down second place in the National League West Division.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with San Francisco trailing 6-5, John Blair hit a slider from Arturo Diaz for a 2-run home run, giving the Giants the walk-off win.
"What a buzz," said Blair after it was over.
