Cardinals Take Down Braves, 7-6
|
Getting a good performance from third baseman Klaas Meij, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Atlanta Braves, 7-6. Meij went 2-2 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Cardinals. St. Louis reliever Tsugunosuke Murakami picked up the win, upping his record to 6-4. Victor Munoz shouldered the loss. Earning his 16th save for St. Louis was Bryan Banana.
St. Louis used the clutch hitting of Tom Butterbaugh to snag the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 7-6. It was his lone hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a crucial one.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Meij said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
With the win, St. Louis has a record of 52-62. Atlanta falls to 63-53.
