Late Rally by Twins Secures 5-3 Win
|
The Minnesota Twins took Boston pitcher J.J. Dean's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Target Field. The final score had Minnesota getting past the Red Sox, 5-3. Dean went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 9. Mark Case earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 3-3. Tony Ramirez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 6 of 7 save opportunities.
Had Steve Jordan not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Jordan hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Twins.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Jordan. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
Minnesota is now 50-66. Boston is 58-57.
