Blue Jays Come Up Short at Washington, 7-6
|
The Washington Nationals did just enough to secure a victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-6, at Nationals Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Jason Cheek. Cheek, now 1-3, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Travis Plesz, credited with the save, is now 6 for 7 in save opportunities.
John Sanders, the Washington second baseman, contributed a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 7-0, Nationals. For the game, Sanders was 1 for 4 with a walk.
"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Cheek said.
The victory puts Washington at 46-74.
