Belew Helps Philadelphia Cruise to 12-3 Win
|
Not everyone stuck through the 64-minute rain delay, but those who did went home happy.
The Philadelphia Phillies topped the Washington Nationals, 12-3, with catcher Chef Belew playing a big role. Belew went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 5 for the Phillies in the win. Sean Hill picked up the win with 5.1 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 10-10.
Belew contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Philadelphia in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 2-1, Belew took a fastball from Jaden Asante and stroked the home run to right. His 15th home run of the season allowed the Phillies to leap in front, 4-2.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Belew.
Philadelphia, at 60-67, occupies third place in the National League East Division.
