Late Rally by White Sox Secures 3-1 Win
|
Xenophon Valvis never let the Yankees get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his sinker, to pitch the White Sox to a win, 3-1. Valvis went the distance for Chicago. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits. Chicago goes to 83-51. The win puts them 9 games up in their division.
Dieter Knoops was the walk-off hero for Chicago. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the White Sox third baseman hit a dramatic 2-run home run to send the teams home.
Knoops said this kind of win gives the team "a buzz."
