Braves Top Mets, 4-1
|
Atlanta pitcher Curt Stevens did his part in helping his team beat the New York Mets, 4-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Stevens, now 11-12, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 8, walking 4, and allowing 1 run. Victor Munoz collected his 27th save.
One of the clutch hits for Atlanta came from one of their biggest talents. In the top of the seventh with two out, Erik Gretzky, who is tied for 7th in the NL in stolen bases with 29, hit a run-scoring single to put the Braves up, 2-0. For the game, the left fielder went 2 for 5 with 2 singles.
Gretzky attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
The first-place Braves have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
