Braves Handle Nationals, 6-1
|
The Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals, 6-1, at Nationals Park. Starting pitcher Casey Jones was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. The National League East Division-leading Braves are 81-69.
The Nationals had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Braves going into the top of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old left fielder Erik Gretzky came to the plate. Gretzky hit a solo home run on a first pitch splitter from Washington hurler Oleg Bahanov. It was Gretzky's 16th home run of the year.
"A great team win and something real positive we can build on," said Jones after the game.
