Berry Homers Twice in 7-1 Mets Win
|
Getting a good performance from center fielder Gus Berry, the New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-1. Berry slugged 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2 for the Mets. Billy McIntyre got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. The victory makes New York 4-3.
Sean Cook, the fan favorite , had a direct impact on the outcome. Cook contributed a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put New York up, 7-1.
"Good pitching stops good hitting," said Berry. "And vice-versa."
