Pirates Take Down Cardinals, 8-7
The performance of Bubba Tierney proved critical in helping Pittsburgh beat St. Louis, 8-7. The Pirates shortstop went 2-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Marko Emchenko, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 4 hits in 2 innings. The win has Pittsburgh at 9-8.

With the game on the line, Brad Day came to bat in the bottom of the 14th. And the Pittsburgh catcher came through, cracking a run-scoring single off Luis Herrera, the St. Louis pitcher.

"Our guys just had that look of determination," said winning manager Kevin Giles.
