van Baal 5-for-6 Against Vanderbilt University
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead Rice University's 15-3 victory over the Vanderbilt University Commodores, first baseman Wendel van Baal told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Evolution-level is really something special."
The 18-year-old player earned his accolades today at Hawkins Field with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Commodores.
"His swing is getting there," said Owls skipper Carlos Sencion, who spoke glowingly of van Baal after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Wendel did that to perfection today."
Wendel van Baal singled in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season van Baal is batting .275 with no home runs, 4 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He has 11 hits in 40 at-bats, 5 walks and a .356 OBP. van Baal has played in 10 games.
