Lee Goes 5-for-6 Against University of Illinois
Wednesday, December 30th , 2048
It was high-fives all around for Kyle Lee at Eck Stadium today.
He got them from his teammates and he got them at the plate during an outstanding hitting performance against the University of Illinois Fighting Illini. Lee smashed 5 hits in 6 at-bats on his monster day, leading his club to a 27-5 win.
"Kyle was hitting everything," said Shockers manager Joe McDermott. "It really was a special game for him."
In the opposing dugout, Fighting Illini manager Larry Stefanski II told BNN beat writers that Lee "ambushed" the club.
"Obviously we didn't have much success against him, but we'll have another chance," the skipper said. "Hopefully, Lee oversleeps next time."
Kyle Lee doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, walked in a run in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Bryan Schauman in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Bryan Schauman in the 6th, flied out in the 7th and singled in the 8th.
This year Lee has hit at a .354 clip with 78 RBIs, 8 home runs and 91 runs scored.

Renteria in Command, No-Hits Bruins
Tuesday, December 29th , 2048
Rice University Owls starter Frank Renteria came up big today at Reckling Park with an exceptional 4-0 outing against the UCLA Bruins. Not only did he whip them, but Renteria held them hitless, too.
"My arm was a bit sore in warmups," confessed Renteria. "Sometimes you go out there and you're not feeling all that hot. You get into the game and all of a sudden in the seventh inning you look up and see the scoreboard and think to yourself, 'Oh, my goodness, I have a no-hitter!' You're so focused on what you're doing, it just happens."
In the course of the no-hitter, Renteria collected 13 strikeouts and surrendered 4 walks -- a day good enough to get his name in the history books.
His record this season is 8-6 in 20 starts and Renteria has a 4.31 ERA.

Grant Hurls 14-0 Masterpiece
Tuesday, December 29th , 2048
It wasn't easy but the Fresno State University Bulldogs made it look that way.
Starter David Grant shut out the Vanderbilt University Commodores despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Fresno State University Bulldogs cruised to victory, 14-0. Grant allowed only 5 hits and rang up 15 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
Currently Grant has a 15-2 won-lost record in 26 starts with a 2.11 ERA. He also has 147 strikeouts in 153.1 innings.
