Ervin Goes Cycling
Wednesday, August 12th , 2048
Ben Ervin punished the Norfolk Tides today, leading the Red Sox to a 8-7 win. In doing so, Ervin hit for the cycle, tagging the Tides for 4 hits in 5 at-bats.
A player hitting a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game is one of the more unusual feats in professional baseball and typically happens only a couple times per season.
"Well, I didn't expect that to happen," the Pawtucket third baseman said after the game. "I got some great pitches and I hit their mistakes."
Ervin also had 4 RBI and 2 runs scored in the game at McCoy Stadium.
Ben Ervin doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a three-run triple in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Ryan Hemmerich in the 9th.
For the season, Ervin is hitting at a .255 clip with 7 home runs, 33 RBIs and has scored 29 runs. He has 70 hits, 33 walks and a .334 on-base percentage.
