Yankees Martell Suffers 3-Game Suspension
Monday, January 7th , 2047
New York (WIN) Yankees right fielder Larry Martell received a 3-game suspension from the league office after he was ejected from a game with the Miami (WIN) Marlins recently.
"I knew I probably was going to be suspended," said Martell. "We just didn't know how many games. I ain't really surprised about the suspension. What I did was wrong. You never get into it with an umpire like that. Something bad is going to happen, probably a suspension. I just hate it had to come to that."
Martell was ejected when he complained bitterly about a called third strike. Martell was called out by the home plate umpire. He immediately spun around and stared at the ump and then used both hands to throw his helmet to the ground. At that point, Martell was ejected. By that time his third base coach and manager had gotten between the pair. Then Martell climbed on the back of his coach trying to reach the umpire. After tussling with him, both men got the irate player calmed down and under control and got him to go back to the dugout and to leave the premises.
This season Martell is hitting at a .150 pace with 3 home runs, 5 RBIs and has scored 9 times.
