Mercer Cracks 5 Hits
Thursday, November 26th , 2048
The 5th time was not the charm for Caleb Mercer today.
The right fielder for the Rice University Owls hit the milestone today at Klein Field at Sunken Diamond, but it was the Stanford University Cardinal that salvaged a 11-4 victory. Mercer finished with a 5-for-5 line at the plate, and it still wasn't enough.
"He was not an easy out, that's for sure," Stanford University manager Gabriel Cramer said to the press in the postgame interview. "I'm just glad we held everybody else in check and got the win."
Mercer declined to speak to reporters at length following the game, saying only that "no loss is a good one."
Caleb Mercer singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
So far this season, Mercer has recorded a .304 batting average with 77 hits, 9 home runs, 37 RBIs, 51 runs scored and a .366 OBP.
