Monday, November 21st , 2050
Tim Martin said he doesn't know how many New York-Penn League seasons he has left in him, but his 2050 campaign certainly indicates he can still compete at an elite level.
At the age of 36, the Spokane Indians star has not only turned in a remarkable season, he's also captured the McNamara Division Most Valuable Player Award.
"It's a highlight of my career for sure," he said. "Players today are bigger, stronger and faster than they were when I started pro ball. I'm happy I can still compete."
The star pitcher turned in a 19-2 record this past year, with 24 starts and 197.2 innings pitched. He had 276 strikeouts with 40 walks and a 1.37 ERA. Martin held opponents to a .129 batting average and compiled a 8.7 WAR.
He received 16 first place votes out of a possible 30. Yoshinari Nara of the Spokane Indians finished second in voting with 9 first place votes, while Ryan Braden of the Spokane Indians finished third with 5 first place votes.
