Cardinals Advance to Division Series
Saturday, October 8th , 2050
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Busch Stadium as the Wildcard Series stretched to the final game.
It was the St. Louis Cardinals feeling the thrill of victory, with a 6-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Division Series.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Pittsburgh manager Sam Mcg Pittsburgh. "Congratulations to St. Louis, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 2-1 series win was left fielder Gerardo Macias, who was named MVP. He hit .444 with a .545 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 1 RBI and scored 3 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.
The St. Louis Cardinals will play against the San Diego Padres in the next round. San Diego had a bye in the Wildcard Series. The Division Series schedule will be announced after the Wildcard Series finishes.
