Valdivia Wins Award for NL Dominance

Mario Valdivia was dominant and cool under pressure this year, and his standout performance has earned the Arizona Diamondbacks reliever recognition as the 2050 National League Reliever of the Year.

"I was just doing my job, and my job is to get people out," said the 28-year-old out of La Vega, Dominican Republic.

The award winner made 83 relief appearances this year and had 23 saves. He fanned 179 batters in 115.2 innings, with 50 walks. He pitched to a record of 9 wins and 3 losses to go with his 2.18 ERA.

He received 22 first place votes out of a possible 30. Bas Kooy of the San Diego Padres finished second in voting with 4 first place votes, while Sam Schrecengost of the San Francisco Giants finished third with 4 first place votes.
