Watkins Fans 15 Fighting Illini Saturday, December 10th , 2050 Everything was working for Shamar Watkins today at Illinois Field. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The curveball was working. In an unforgettable performance, the 20-year-old Watkins fanned 15 Fighting Illini and sparked the Wichita State University Shockers to a 8-0 victory over University of Illinois. He left Fighting Illini hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it. "I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Wichita State University manager Joe McDermott. "His location and command were really something." In addition to collecting 15 strikeouts over 7.1 innings, Watkins allowed 1 hit and no walks in a superlative outing. "I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Watkins said with a smile. His record for the year is 13-4 in 21 starts and Watkins has a 2.80 ERA. |
