Hits Galore: Sanchez Drills 5 Hits
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Jose Sanchez, it came around today.
The 21-year-old first baseman scattered hits all over Baseball City Complex to pace the Chicago (APP) Cubs to a 29-3 victory over the Washington (APP) Nationals.
Washington (APP) skipper Andy Vazquez told reporters in the press room that "Sanchez deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Sanchez hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Jose Sanchez hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, singled in the 5th, walked in the 6th, singled in the 7th and walked in the 8th.
This year Sanchez is hitting .205 with 13 home runs and 41 RBIs in 123 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .356 with 77 walks and 58 runs scored.
