McCormick Cracks 5 Hits
|
Even as a kid, Josh McCormick said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At First Energy Park today, McCormick showed how well he learned that lesson.
The 21-year-old catcher had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Atlanta (MID) Braves, helping his team knock off the Lakewood BlueClaws by a score of 20-1.
"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today."
Josh McCormick singled in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Roberto Ruiz in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, struck out in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Alex Fernandez in the 9th.
This season McCormick has banged out 11 hits in 34 at-bats for a .324 average with 3 home runs. He is getting on base at a .343 pace and his totals also include 10 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
