Big Day with Bat: Meyer 5-for-5 Friday, November 18th , 2050 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Ben Meyer, it came around today. The 17-year-old second baseman scattered hits all over UFCU Disch-Falk Field to pace the Stanford University Cardinal to a 13-0 victory over the University of Toronto Marlies. University of Toronto skipper Sal Munoz told reporters in the press room that "Meyer deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Meyer hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Ben Meyer hit an RBI triple in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Luke Stannard in the 7th and doubled in the 9th. Meyer is hitting .300 for the season with 3 home runs, 29 RBIs and 18 runs scored. He has 36 hits in 120 at-bats and played in 47 games. |
